Look Down (2023)
Play Video

When going out involves avoiding a pack of monsters stalking the block, a girl must put on a suit of armor (aka a baggy hoodie and dark shades) to reach the bus stop without getting caught.

This story originally stemmed from stories shared between myself and friends in regards to how body consciousness, especially for many women, bleeds into everyday decision making, forcing us to act in constant defense to protect ourselves from the monsters that might harm us.  However, as I continued to work on this project, I began to see how this message touched on the experiences of many more groups of targeted people, who find themselves up against monsters, half that pose as true threats and the other half that we invent out of our fear.

This is my 3rd year solo film completed at SVA

"Look Down" was selected by The WNET Group's Exploring Hate Initiative to be part of a collection of films titled "An Animated Response To Hate"on PBS' website.

It was submitted in response to the prompts of "what is hate? what is the opposite of hate? how do you handle hate towards someone you care about?"
